POSITION SUMMARY :

Responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, clerical, and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Conveys a positive image of clinic.

REPORTS TO :

The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Nursing Manager.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

•  Checks schedules and organizes patient flow.

•  Accompanies patients to exam/procedure room; assists patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; and collects patient history.

•  Assists physicians with various procedures.

•  Sends/receives patient medical records and manages the charts to ensure information is completed.

•  Obtains lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.

•  Completes forms/requisitions as needed.

•  Schedules appointments.

•  Sets up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.

•  Cleans exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.

•  Orders, sorts, and stores supplies; restock exam/procedure rooms.

•  Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma or GED; successful completion of Certified Medical Assisting Program.

Certification by state as CMA; ongoing CPR certification.

1 year of experience preferred but not required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

He/she must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English. He/she must have knowledge of the health care field, basic nursing practices, clinic policies/procedures, and paperwork. He/she must have knowledge of how to use office equipment including phone and computer.

He/she must have the ability to maintain a clutter-free, organized exam area; the ability to respond with flexibility to changing work load or patient assignments; ability to use department supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient, effective manner; ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone and establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians, staff and other customers.

Varied activities including standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
